23/24 Test Day 10: Salomon Skis and BOA Boots

Earlier this winter, we met up with the folks from Salomon to test some of their new skis and BOA boots for the 23/24 season. Up in Vermont at Sugarbush, TSM founders Eric Gerrmann and George Michaelsen were met with some overcast skies and chilly temps. As for the snow, it was fast and grippy — perfect for ripping down groomers on the Salomon QST, Stance, and Echo. 

To start, Eric spent some time on the QST 92. “Anyone can jump on that ski,” he said. “It’s fun, versatile, and performs well in all kinds of snow.” The QST has always been a solid option for intermediates and experts, making it work well as an everyday al-mountain ski for a variety of riders. 

George wore an updated version of his TNF kit from last year. He was rocking the Ceptor Jacket and Bib Pant - both shells that provide great versatility for layering. He has always loved this kit for its comfort, fit, and, most importantly, superior pocket layout.  

They both wore the new S/Pro Supra 130 BOA boots. The biggest update to boot tech for the 23/24 season is hands down the introduction of BOAs. Salomon has been using the BOA adjustment system on their other shoes (snowboard boots, hiking shoes, trail running shoes, etc.) for a long time, but this will be the first year we see them on ski boots.  

The BOA system sits on the lower shell, replacing the traditional two buckles over the toes and instep. The BOA allows for the boots to be wrapped more evenly around the foot without disrupting the fit or creating typical top-of-the-foot pressure points. Both Eric and George are really excited about the introduction of BOA into the ski world and are looking forward to testing them more throughout the season. 

Eric, in particular, said that Salomon boots tend to feel more upright than others in the same category, offering the wearer more forward lean that, in turn, helps them drive their ski better.

The next stop on our Salomon test series will be in Utah at Alta. We’ll be there in a few weeks to test these and more Salomon products again in some new territory, with a trip recap to come on how everything held up in west coast conditions.
