Let’s be honest, up until the last week or so, this winter has been borderline disappointing. Across the Mountain West, ski areas saw early fall storms with significant snow totals but then Ullr decided to turn off the faucet for what felt like most of the winter months. Occasional storms here and there kept lifts spinning, but not even in the Great White North was the skiing either that great, or white, all season.
In a fortuitous turn of events, Old Man Winter decided to make his long-awaited return before every ski area hung up their B-netting. With gargantuan spring storm totals reaching multiple feet of mid-winter pow in a matter of days in the Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountains, ski areas from California to Vermont are reaping these late-season snow benefits.
The end of ski season is always inevitable but if you’re like us, you’ll do anything to extend it as long as possible. Namely, packing up the car and road tripping to nearby ski areas that are still welcoming skiers and riders. To make this harrowing endeavor just a bit easier for you—we can’t make gas any cheaper, sorry—we’ve compiled a list of 10 ski areas across the United States that are operating well into May and even June. Pack your boots and your buds, the 2022 ski season is far from over!
Note: These dates are subject to change based on snow and weather conditions.
As of Monday, April 18, Jay Peak plans to operate through the first weekend in May with lifts officially closing at the end of the day on Sunday, May 1, 2022.
Daily operations will commence at “The Bird” on Sunday, May 1, but don’t worry! Weekend-only operations will continue through the entire month of May, so long as the snow sticks around.
Just 53 miles from Denver, Loveland offers some of the quickest spring turns from the city and a closing date of May 8 means there’s still a few weeks left to gobble the goods.
If you’ve ever skied Winter Park Resort, you know the best place to be is on the Mary Jane side of the mountain. Lucky for us, the ski area plans to keep the Mary Jane side of the resort open for as long the snow will allow. Get there before it’s gone!
Offering more days of lift-served skiing and riding than anywhere else in New England, Killington plans to remain open through Memorial Day—conditions permitting.
From now until Memorial Day, Breckenridge plans to operate its high-alpine terrain on Peaks 6, 7 and 8, with adjusted spring hours, through Memorial Day. Note: only intermediate to expert-level terrain is available on these peaks.

A $237 spring pass gives you access to Timberline seven days a week through May 30, 2022, but this ski area operates all the way to Labor Day with a specific summer season pass.
Home of the highest terrain in North America, Arapahoe Basin uses its high elevation to extend the ski season longer than any other ski area in Colorado. Generally operating from October through mid-June, late spring turns are a dime a dozen in these parts.
Situated on top of Beartooth Pass in Montana, this single-poma ski area doesn’t even open until most ski areas in the U.S. are closed for the season. The official opening day of the 2022 summer ski season is May 27, with operations usually going through the month of June.
