Last season I explored a few new places in the Mad River Valley and one place worth bringing attention to is Hostel Tevere. This place is perfect for those who just want a chill place to stay near Sugarbush without breaking the bank. My friends and I would usually make the 4 hour drive to Hostel Tevere from Boston on Friday nights and come back Sunday night. Being right at the bottom of the access road made it easy to catch first chair most mornings and grab breakfast on the way. The things that make the hostel a way better choice than a motel or hotel is this: You pay individually per bed so nobody has to put the whole room on their credit card. The atmosphere is super laidback and accommodating. The bar is the liveliest one for miles around!
Like some hostels, Hostle Tevere provides you with a clean bed and a hot shower for a very reasonable $35 per night. The owners, Giles and Sarah, have turned this old house into an all-in-one après ski hotspot. The restaurant and bar on the main level is a huge part of their business and always has a home cooked meal ready for you at the end of the day. Usually, on weekends there are local bands that swing through to play which sets a good vibe for the whole place. There is a true vintage New England style that you feel when walking through the halls, but it has upgrades in all the right places. There are a few rooms upstairs with bunk beds and a few single private bathrooms. Everyone shares bedroom space so if that’s not your thing then this place might not be for you. There is also a shuttle that can be called so you don’t have to worry about parking at the mountain.
I’m honestly surprised that there aren’t more places like this around New England because it definitely caters to those individuals (or groups) looking for the affordable alternatives in ski lodging close to the mountain. If you're going to Sugarbush and are on a budget, stay here, you won't regret it!
