Red Bull Stratos Space Jump

Posted October 15, 2012 @ 1:55pm | by Eric Gerrmann

Yesterday afternoon, the Red Bull Stratos project was a complete success. The flying spaceman, Felix Baumgartner, jumped from over 128,000 feet above the earth. It was streamed live by over 40 television stations in over 50 countries around the world. At TSM headquarters we watched live via youtube, and we were in utter disbelief when the craziest man on the planet jumped from his space capsule.

Felix Baumgartner stood at the edge of space, saluted the millions watching him and let himself free fall back to earth. He is the first person to reach a supersonic speed without the help of a man-made vehicle. His max speed was 833 mph and had a free fall distance of 119,846 feet. There was one scary moment that made me feel like he wasn't going to accomplish his goal. Felix started spiraling uncontrollably for about 10-20 seconds, and then he was able to miraculously correct the spiral and continue on in Iron Man fashion to break the sound barrier.

This is one of the crazy things I have ever seen, and it should be viewed by all... Cheers to this 43 year-old Austrian spaceman, I guess Red Bull really does give you wings.
