Enjoy Winter: Ski More

Posted February 14, 2011 @ 9:54am | by The Ski Monster

A few weeks have passed since the 2011 Colorado trip, a trip which I would consider to be one of the most successful and fulfilling I’ve had in my years skiing in Colorado. This could be due to amazing snowfall and the purely, epic terrain skied or just the simplicity of losing track of time in the company of the mountains and good skiers. One would think the hype and excitement of a trip like that would slowly fade after a few weeks but instead I am continually driven forward by the experiences which replay through my mind on a daily basis.

Someone told me today that life isn’t all about skiing and snowboarding. I’m not sure what point they were trying to make, but it sure as hell hit home. The comment left me dead in my tracks with a feeling of perplexity. Then I thought about and came to a conclusion... This guy needs to Enjoy Winter and Ski More! Skiing is exactly what life is all about, I mean I don’t think I could live without it.

Cannon Mountain MittersillThe other day while at work I had a revelation during a boot fit. The boot I was putting on this ladies rank foot was a size too big. I had already put her in the appropriate size but she wasn’t having it. It is my job to help the consumer find the equipment which best suits their needs, if you’re going to fight me on my recommendations, be my guest, have it your way and enjoy your bruised angles and black toes. If you can’t already tell, I had lost all hope in the sale at this point and I am only half engaged in the conversation when the husband pipes up about how many years he had been skiing for. I replied, “I have been skiing for 21 years”, this is when the revelation hit me. As I approach 23 years of age, I embark on my 21st year of skiing. This can only mean two things; I have over two decades of shredding under my belt and the Apres just got really sick.

January proved to be one of the most epic ski months in terms of snow fall amounts for the North East. Ski Areas tree runs are stacked with snow and are only getting better throughout the month of February. All natural zones like Cannon Mountain's, Mittersill (See Picture), are a bump skiers dream, and some of the smaller ski areas like Vermont’s, Bolton Valley, are bursting at the seams with secret stashes.

If you haven’t gotten out to enjoy the season of winter, its time you did because it’s not waiting around for anyone. If your equipment is out dated, you’re already at the right place. Get yours and get out!
