Volkl Peregrine 82 Skis w/ Lowride XL 13 FR Bindings 2027
The Peregrine 82 is one of the most underrated skis in Volkl's lineup.
For 2027, it returns unchanged aside from a graphic update, and after spending another season on it, we're perfectly okay with that. Volkl absolutely nailed this ski. It delivers the grip, precision, and confidence you'd expect from a high-performance frontside ski while being far more approachable than most skis in the category.
That's what makes the Peregrine 82 so impressive.
A lot of frontside skis are incredible when you're skiing your best, but demand constant attention. They punish mistakes, feel cumbersome at slower speeds, and can become exhausting over the course of a full day. The Peregrine 82 doesn't do any of that. It offers legitimate expert-level performance without feeling like it's trying to beat you up.
In many ways, it's the opposite side of the Volkl coin from the Mantra family. While the Mantras like to be driven aggressively and reward skiers who push them hard, the Peregrine feels balanced, intuitive, and easy to access from the very first run. It doesn't require perfect technique to enjoy, yet still has enough horsepower to satisfy very strong skiers.
On firm snow, the ski feels exceptional. Edge grip is outstanding, transitions are smooth, and the ski is comfortable making everything from quick short-radius turns to larger GS arcs. What surprised us most was how easy it is to release the tail when you want to. Unlike many frontside skis that feel locked into every turn, the Peregrine allows you to feather, smear, and adjust your line without a fight. That gives the ski a level of versatility and predictability that's hard to find in this category.
Volkl's flatter profile and 3D Radius sidecut work exceptionally well together here. The ski feels precise when you want precision, but never one-dimensional. It encourages different turn shapes and skiing styles rather than forcing you into one specific lane.
Over the course of testing, we skied the Peregrine 82 on everything from boilerplate hardpack to soft spring groomers and afternoon crud. While it clearly prefers firm snow and freshly groomed terrain, it remains composed when conditions deteriorate. It has enough suspension and stability to blast through chopped-up snow without feeling nervous or overwhelmed.
Compared to skis like the Stockli Montero AR or Fischer Curv GT 85, the Peregrine isn't quite as powerful or demanding. What it gives back, however, is accessibility. It's easier to ski, easier to bend, and easier to enjoy across a wider range of ability levels while still delivering the performance that aggressive skiers demand.
If you love ripping groomers but don't want a ski that constantly reminds you who's in charge, the Peregrine 82 deserves a long look. It's one of the few skis that genuinely works for a broad range of skiers—from progressing intermediates all the way to experts who simply want a smooth, confidence-inspiring ride.
