The Mantra has been a household name for quite some time. Over the last 10 years or so you have probably owned a pair or had at least one friend that has. Until the 14/15 season the flagship Volkl had gone pretty much unchanged. In 2015 the Mantra got a full rocker construction and a little more width underfoot measuring in at 100mm,the M5 is the biggest Mantra overhaul yet -- in a good way, good to see you again camber. Because most people reading this review are so familiar with the Mantra series we thought it'd be appropriate to answer the question you really are on this page to find out..
What are the differences between the Original Volkl Mantra, the 2015 - 2018 Mantra and the new Mantra M5?
The Mantra M5 is the BEST Mantra yet, unless you don't like gripping on hardpack or blasting through crud. For those that loved the original Mantra or wish the 2018 Mantra had some more horsepower you're gonna be at Full Stoke. The new construction and the move from a fully rockered construction to rocker/camber/rocker really change how it skis. The waist width change is negligible but seems like a big change because Volkl went from three digits (100 mm) to two (96 mm).
The M5 gets back to what the original Mantra was great at, ripping on hard snow, but the M5 does it with a lighter construction, making it feel more nimble or less laborious in really tight situations -- the original Mantra wasn't good at this, the 2015 - 2018 was pretty good, the M5 is way better. The M5 is a beast, it's not watered down to make intermediates feel confident, it's built to allow experts/pros to push it harder and feel more confident.
