The Salomon S/Pro Alpha 130 is a high-performance boot that offers a low-volume fit. You need a great boot if you're a ripping skier and want to get the most performance out of your skis. When we tested the Alphas last, we threw them on brand new at Alta -- right out of the box. The out-of-the-box fit was great, and we had no problem skiing in them all day, considering they weren't broken in or molded. Aside from that, the performance was incredible and a major upgrade over the Salomon S/Max. This is a low-volume fitting boot for skiers with more narrow feet or those who want a performance-oriented fit. The 130 flex offers ultimate power, responsiveness, rebound, and snow feel. The lateral stiffness of this boot is great, allowing you to get those skis tipped over quickly and confidently. Even though this is a more performance-oriented boot, it isn't the most uncomfortable thing out there, and it's not difficult to get in and out of.
Bootfitter's notes:
The Alpha 130 is precise in all the right places without being overbearing. Out of the box, the length will feel a bit more generous compared to some other boots, but not enough to warrant sizing down. The liner is more plush than some other high-flex ski boots but still firm in the heel and ankle area. The instep is on the more generous side. The liner and shell are both heat moldable -- making this one of the easiest boots to modify out of the box to accommodate for any problem areas on your feet.
