In case you haven't heard, K2 makes ski boots and this is their third year doing it. The boots were sick when they first came out and now after the minor bugs have gotten worked out they are really nice boots. They have excellent downhill performance anywhere on the mountain. This is a unique boot to have tech inserts for the most part with the exception of the Dalbello Lupo T.I, they are only on super light boots geared for going up, but lightweight boots aren't fun to ski down on. The Pinnacle 130 provides skiers with an awesome downhill option that can be used with regular DIN bindings but will also work on a tour set up like with the new KingPin.
Now a lot of AT purists will say this set up doesn't make sense -- the boot is too heavy. The Pinnacle 130 is great for skiers that are doing quick skins that aren't exhuasting but want a boot that will perform skiing down. The Pinnacle 130 is for skiers that want to have fun skiing down and don't mind a little extra sweat skinning up.
Unlike most boots the Pinnacle 130 doesn't lose flex points by having a walk/hike mode -- a rare trait. The Pinnacle 130 flexes just like it's non-hike mode brother the Spyne 130. The shell is among the best fitting out there. K2 pre-punched at the Navicular bone making the boot much more comfortable for those with flatter feet or protruding Naviculars bones. If you're familiar with Intuition you know they fit way better after being molded to your foot - out of the box fit isn't the best way to judge an intuition lined ski boot.
*All K2 Ski Boots flex slightly softer than most boots with the same flex index.
Intuition PrecistionFit Tour - Intuition makes this liner specifically for the K2 Pinnacle boot with the hard charger that wants to tour in mind. Because the upper cuff is able to swing back so far, Intuition created a notch to allow the liner to flex backwards more easily when skinning on flatter terrain. The liner is warm and extremely comfortable after molding -- pretty good out of the box though.
3 Micro-Adjustable Buckles - 3 sleek micro-adjustable buckles keep your foot locked in place.
Integrated Tech Fittings - You're still able to click into standard DIN bindings, but also have the option to use tech toe binding like the Marker Kingpin, Dynafit Beast etc. The tech fittings are fully integrated during the shell injection so you'll get a better response and better life out of the fittings.
Wider Third Buckle - Most 3 buckle boots that are on a standard overlap shell are softer flexing. K2 eliminates that by making the buckle wider to cover more surfrace area acting like a 4th buckle.
