K2 Mindbender 96 W Skis 2027 // Women's
The Mindbender 96 W follows a refreshingly simple philosophy: take everything that makes the Mindbender 96 so good, then make it lighter, more accessible, and easier to bend.
That's exactly what K2 did.
Rather than creating an entirely different ski with a different shape and personality, the 96 W uses the same sidecut, rocker profile, construction philosophy, and overall design language as the unisex Mindbender 96. The difference comes from a thinner profile and lower overall mass, resulting in a ski that feels more approachable, more energetic, and easier to maneuver without losing the qualities that make the 96 one of the standout skis in K2's lineup.
The result is a ski that feels remarkably familiar to anyone who has skied the standard Mindbender 96.
It still has the same balanced all-mountain personality. It still feels comfortable carving groomers, exploring bumps, navigating trees, and handling mixed conditions. It still delivers the smooth, predictable ride that has become a hallmark of the redesigned Mindbender collection.
It just requires less input from the skier.
The lighter construction allows the ski to roll onto edge more easily, transition quicker from turn to turn, and feel less demanding in technical terrain. While the standard 96 likes to be pushed, the 96 W is happy doing exactly what you ask of it, whether that's making patient medium-radius turns down a groomer or quickly changing directions through bumps and trees.
The construction remains impressive.
Like the unisex version, the 96 W utilizes an Aspen and Paulownia core, Titanal I-Beam construction, and K2's new Dark Matter Damping technology. Dark Matter remains one of the more noticeable technologies we've tested in recent years. By strategically placing weighted damping material where vibrations naturally occur, K2 created a ski that feels remarkably quiet without sacrificing energy.
The ski absorbs chatter exceptionally well, creating a calm and confidence-inspiring ride even when conditions become firm or inconsistent. Instead of feeling nervous or twitchy like many lighter skis can, the 96 W remains composed and predictable.
That's a big part of what makes this ski so successful.
Many lighter all-mountain skis gain maneuverability but lose confidence when the terrain gets rough. The Mindbender 96 W manages to retain much of the stability and smoothness of the standard 96 while becoming easier to ski across the board.
On groomers, the ski initiates cleanly and holds an edge far better than many skiers will expect from a ski with this much rocker and versatility. It isn't a dedicated carving ski, but it happily lays down arcs of virtually any shape and feels comfortable at a wide range of speeds.
Off trail is where the ski really shines.
Trees, bumps, chopped-up snow, mixed conditions, and softer snow all play directly into its strengths. The lighter weight makes it easier to pivot, easier to release from turns, and less fatiguing over the course of a long day. At the same time, the damping and metal construction provide enough support and confidence to encourage skiers to push their limits.
For many skiers, this may actually be the sweet spot of the entire Mindbender collection.
It offers nearly all of the versatility, predictability, and refinement of the standard Mindbender 96 while requiring less strength and effort to access those benefits. That's a recipe that works for a huge range of skiers and conditions.
If you're looking for one ski that can confidently handle groomers, bumps, trees, crud, and occasional powder days without feeling overly demanding, the Mindbender 96 W deserves a very close look.
