Burton Custom Flying V Snowboard 2018

THIS AIN'T NO GIBSON

These days, every single snowboard is marketed as the “do-it-all board.” And while it’s true that most snowboards are increasingly becoming capable of hitting everything on the mountain, almost every board specializes in one specific thing, or is best suited for one terrain. But marketing aside, if there was one board that truly was the one snowboard to do it all, it’s the Burton Custom Flying V. Burton’s Flying V rocker/camber allows for the ideal balance of nimble, floaty rocker with grippy and powerful camber. Intermediate riders will appreciate the bit of flex and won’t feel overwhelmed, while advanced riders know from years of experience that the Custom can get into (and out of) everything.  A legendary board that somehow continues to innovate and improve year in and out still blows our minds. It might not be the best snowboard at any one specific thing on the mountain, but it does every single thing really really well, and we’ve yet to see any rider who wouldn’t be able to take this thing out and have an absolute blast. It’s a classic for a reason, so check out the Burton Custom Flying V and turn the mountain into your personal playground.

FAQ

How does the Custom Flying V compare to the Burton Skeleton Key?

While the Custom is the true all-mountain slayer, the Skeleton Key is a bit more of a specialized board that’s really geared for off-trail shredding. With increased nose rocker, backseat camber, and a setback stance, the Skeleton Key’s performance off the tral is stuff of legend. If you’re somebody who knows you like to have fun away from the crowds and the groomers than the Skeleton Key is absolutely a must for you to check out.

What’s the deal with the Flying V shape?

An absolute staple of the snowboard industry for years, Burton’s Flying V shape is their perfect all-mountain balance of rip and float. Rocker in the tip and tail, as well as directly in the center of the board provides a stable ride that feels awesome and will slash off trail, while camber zones directly underfoot provide the power and sharpness directly under your boots, where the power is generated. Rocker/Camber is all the rage these days because of its ability to shred everything, and the Flying V remains the ultimate construction in snowboard shapes for riders looking to hit it all.

Does the board feel stable enough at high speeds?

Oh yeah. Even if you like to rip straight lines at top speed you’ll always super stable on the Custom. Obviously the rocker is great for floating in pow, but the camber zones have more than enough grip to keep you flying down groomers for a chatter-free ride at any speed.

Construction

Flying V - Camber/Rocker/Camber Rocker between and outside of your feet with camber directly underfoot. Nimble and powerful that makes turn initiation super easy with awesome float to match.

The Channel - A channel replaces traditional mounting inserts within the board for free form adjusting that is not restricted by a 3 degree mounting plate. This system also allows the board to flex naturally and reduces overall weight.

Core

FSC Certified Super Fly 700g Core - A blend of stronger and lighter woods in specific locations that allows the board to have big performance with non of the weight.

Dualzone EDG - Wood grain is positioned perpendicular in two continuous zones at the toe and heel edges for added strength and edge hold.

Shape

Directional - Nose is slightly longer than the tail for effortless float and camber under your back foot gives stability for driving through turns.

Reinforcements

Squeezebox - Thicker core sections paired with thinner sections lets the board flex where you want it while maintaining massive pop.

Carbon Highlights 45- Optimizing each layer of fiberglass by adding full tip-to-tail carbon layer to reduce weight, increase torsional strength, and allows for a more aggressive feel.

Base/Edges

Sintered WFO - Infusing a specially formulated wax into the dense sintered base material for unreal durability, speed, and performance all season long.

Frostbite - Edges extend out slightly underneath the binding for improved edge hold on hard snow. Aggressive when needed while remaining playful in softer condition.

Additional Awesomeness

Infinite Ride - Burton exclusive technology to maxmize pop and strength by overbuilding the board. Then put into a machine that breaks in the board for you, resulting in the same feel season after season.

Pro-Tip - Tapered thickness in the tip and tail to reduce swing weight for easier rotations and overall board control.

Binding

As a Burton board with Channel Construction, the Custom is compatible with a Burton EST binding. EST bindings will reduce the overall weight of the board and allow it to flex naturally. Most traditional mount bindings now come with Channel-compatible mini-discs, but in order to get the full benefits of the channel, choosing a Burton EST binding is the way to go.

If you’re someone who likes to absolutely shred and wants the stiffest stuff out there, the Burton Genesis is the binding for getting unrivaled performance. The all-time classic Burton Cartel will give you an awesome mid-flex ride, and the Malavita is the call if you want something with a little more cushion that is freestyle-ready.
