The Atomic Shift 13 is the best option for skiers who want to make as few sacrifices as possible when putting together an alpine touring set-up. The best thing about the Shift binding is how great it is on the downhill side of things without hampering too much efficiency on the way uphill. Downhill performance, whether it's in the resort or the backcountry, is matched pretty evenly with a traditional alpine ski binding. It sends power and input from you to the skis really well and provides some suspension to mute out some negative feedback (vibration) you might experience over more firm terrain nearly as well as a normal downhill binding. On the upslope side of things, the Shift might not be as light as a true tech binding but it does offer the same fluid feel. It doesn't hinder your natural gait, making the way up as efficient as possible aside from carrying a few extra grams compared to a true tech binding. If you're a skier that enjoys the resort, wants the option to tour, and you only want one set of skis this is the binding you need. It's the best of both worlds and it's the binding that the majority of our testers use on their personal AT set-ups.

The Shift 13 is downhill-capable and uphill-capable. Usually, you have to make sacrifices when you're putting together a set-up that works in and out of the resort. With the Shift binding, you make very little sacrifice. It's great on the way down, and smooth on the way up. This is the binding you need.
