TOURING ON SUNSHINE.

The Atomic Backland XTD Carbon 120 is one of the best fitting, best skiing, touring boots we've ever tested. Weighing in around 1400g it's about 600 grams lighter than most down hill boots, but it's not so light that it trades off to much downhill performance. Atomic has done a nice job building a boot that toes the line of uphill efficiency and the ability to steer skis confidently on descents. This is a boot that is more touring oriented, so it's not a great option for skiers who spend the majority of time in the resort but it could handle a resort day if you found yourself there. On the way up, a fluid walk mode and more relaxed fit will keep your feet happy and make your ascent as efficient as possible. Switch into ski mode and you'll be more than surprised at how responsive the Backland XTD 120 is for a touring focused boot. It offers good rebound and lateral stiffness for quick, technical turns or longer sweeping turns if you get the chance to lay over some nice turns on the descent. The two buckle system also makes transtions from touring to skiing quick and easy. There aren't a ton of boots in this category that ski really well, this is close to the top of that list. One of our favorite new touring boots for the 23/24 season.

Bootfitter's notes:

For avergage feet this is a tough boot to beat in the touring category. If you have narrower feet the heel hold is more than enough to keep you locked in on descents and if you have wider feet the heat moldable liner and shell are easy to manipulate to get the fit to be more comfortable. Length is true to size and toe box is comfortable enough to keep your feet happy on longer ascents. Generous across the instep and top of the foot but not overly spacious. Heel/ankle area has a firm but not aggressive fit and feel. Sides of the feet are true to a mid volume fit. For a stiffer touring boot, the Backland 120 XTD is not a difficult boot to put on or take off.
