The Arc'teryx Macai Down Jacket is for cold days when a shell and three different layers underneath sounds like more work than it needs to be.
750-fill responsibly sourced goose down provides substantial warmth without excessive bulk, while the GORE-TEX shell keeps wind and weather from cutting through. That combination makes the Macai especially good for resort skiing, where you're alternating between skiing hard and sitting still on a freezing chairlift.
It's also impressively adaptable for such a warm jacket. Mesh-backed PowderGuard vents let you dump heat without inviting snow inside, while the insulated, helmet-compatible DropHood and powder skirt can both be removed when you don't need the extra coverage. It's expensive, very warm, and extremely well executed—which is pretty much exactly what the Macai is supposed to be.
