The Ripstick 102 might be the most exciting part of the newly constructed Ripstick family. Elan overhauled the whole lineup and introduced the 102 as a middle ground for someone who wants something more geared toward off-trail and soft snow shredding than its more narrow sibling the Ripstick 96. Both the Ripstick 96 and the new 102 are the most versatile options of the bunch, the 102's construction is just slightly more tailored toward off-trail skiing while the 96 is going to hold up better on groomed terrain. The 102 is wider and has slightly more rocker. It's going to float well through soft snow and feel like less work in tight terrain. This ski is built for the skier who wants something that can do everything, but whose priorities skew more toward off-trail performance. As I mentioned, the Ripstick 96 will feel quicker edge-to-edge and will handle firm snow slightly better, but that's not to say the 102 can't handle those parts of the mountain. It's still a Ripstick, its energy is unmatched, it does all the hard work when it comes to initiating a turn, and strong construction toward the center of the ski gives it plenty of confidence remain stable when your foot is on the gas and you go to lean the ski over. If you're a skier looking for one of the most well-rounded skis that's wide enough for any off-trail adventure you should think about grabbing yourself a pair of the brand-new Ripstick 102s.
