Find the Soft Stuff.

The Black Crows Atris Birdie has been a favorite in the freeride category for a long time, and it's pretty easy to understand why once you get on a pair.

This ski is incredibly maneuverable.

At 105 mm underfoot with generous rocker in the tips and tails, the Atris Birdie feels loose and easy to pivot from the moment you click in. It can make quick direction changes in tight trees, slash through soft bumps, and smear turns in deeper snow without ever feeling like you're fighting the ski.

That's where the Atris Birdie is happiest. If you spend most of your day looking at the sides of the trail, searching for powder stashes, and finding the most interesting way down the mountain, this ski makes a ton of sense.

The impressive part is that Black Crows hasn't made it overly soft to achieve that playful feel. There's enough strength underfoot to keep the ski composed in steeper terrain and give you confidence when soft snow turns into chop. Get back on a groomer and it'll hold an edge and carve a respectable turn, too. It's certainly not why you're buying an Atris Birdie, but it's nice knowing the ski doesn't fall apart when conditions aren't ideal.

The construction itself isn't overly complicated, and that's part of what makes this ski work. Black Crows pairs a relatively straightforward build with a sophisticated shape that gives the Atris Birdie its combination of energy, maneuverability, and stability.

There are a ton of skis competing in this category, but few feel quite as intuitive in soft snow as the Atris Birdie. It's surfy, quick, playful, and easy to maneuver without becoming nervous when you pick up speed.

Who is this for? Skiers who want a quick, maneuverable freeride ski.
Who is this not for? Skiers who spend the majority of their time carving groomers.
