This isn't your average mid-layer. The North Face Ventrix Mid-Layer was designed to provide you with dynamic warmth on the hill by combining insulation with ventilation. While you're moving and working up a sweat the Ventrix Insulation stretches open slightly to allow heat and moisture to escape, and when you stop moving those tiny perforations in the garment close to trap in the heat to keep you warm when you aren't working as hard. The dynamic insulation makes this a perfect mid layer for skiing or riding. When you're charging hard through the trees or chewing up moguls the layer will breathe, and on the lift ride back up you'll trap in that body heat to keep you warm and ready for the next lap.
