There's no denying the Ride Torrent is a top dog. This is the boot of choice for multiple testers here at The Ski Monster, including Neil who's in charge of buying our snowboard inventory (the guy knows a thing or two). This is a mid-stiff binding that toes the line of aggressive but not limiting perfectly. It's got enough power to drive the board down harder charging runs confidently and efficiently, but isn't so rigid that it's too demanding at lower speeds. Performance-wise, it works for all types of riding styles. It's comfortable with aggressive riding or mellow riding, so it's not going to feel unnatural for many snowboarders. Newer riders might be better off in something a little softer. If you're a beginner and you're drawn to the high-quality of the Torrent, check out The 92 from Ride. It's a similar boot with a more approachable feel. That's not to say the Torrent isn't approachable, it's just stiffer so it's more comfortable with an experienced rider. The Torrent's top-end performance is higher because of the extra stiffness. It's going to provide more response at higher speeds. It's not the stiffest boot out there, but it can handle all speeds. The torrent fits great out of the box, is loaded with tech, and is ready to charge all over the mountain. Win win win.
The Torrent is one of the most comfortable, and best-fitting boots we carry. A roomy toe box and narrow heel make this a great option for a wide range of foot shapes. It works for anyone with a wider foot, or anyone with a more narrow foot that prioritizes comfort over the most locked-in feel in the front of their boot. The heel pocket of the liner is equipped with adaptable foam pieces that grab onto your heel for extra support. Full disclosure, this part of the boot can feel a little unnatural right out of the box, but will be the first part of the boot to break into your foot shape. A couple days of riding and the fit will be dialed. The double Boa system allows for great leg support for your calf and shin, along with full control over the fit in your heel.
We test products year round in order to curate the best gear for you.
This boot is looking for a rider that takes snowboarding seriously. One that demands high quality and high-performance capability. If that's you, this is one of your best options.
