The Burton Step On Cartel X Re:Flex sits right in the middle of Burton's performance lineup, and that's exactly why we like it.

It takes a noticeable step toward the responsiveness of the Step On X without overdoing it for the rider who isn't always riding at their absolute limit. The result is a binding that feels composed, supportive, and ready to ride just about anything without ever feeling overbuilt.

On snow, the personality is exactly what you'd expect from the Cartel name. It feels supportive, responsive, and ready for just about anything. Edge engagement is quick, the chassis has plenty of backbone when you start riding harder, and the binding remains composed whether you're carving groomers, navigating chopped-up snow, or picking your way through technical terrain.

Compared to the Genesis, the Cartel X leans a little more toward response than comfort. It reacts a little quicker edge-to-edge, feels slightly more supportive when you're driving through a carve, and offers a more connected ride overall. The Genesis still wins when it comes to all-day cushioning, but the gap is smaller than you might expect.

Like the rest of Burton's Step On collection, entry and exit become second nature after a few runs. What keeps us coming back, though, is how natural the system feels once you're riding.
