Black Crows Camox Freebird Skis 2027
Let's get one thing straight: the Camox Freebird isn't trying to win a contest for the lightest ski on the skintrack.
We're thankful for that.
If you want a toothpick on your feet while you climb for six hours only to get bucked around on the way down, there are plenty of lightweight "skis" for that.
The Camox Freebird is built for people who still want to ski the mountain, not just survive the descent.
At 95 mm underfoot, it lands in an awesome spot for a touring ski. There's enough width to handle soft snow and a few inches of fresh, but it's still narrow enough to feel comfortable when you're dealing with firm snow, technical terrain, or questionable conditions at the top of a line.
More importantly, it actually feels like a ski.
There's enough substance underfoot that the Camox Freebird doesn't get knocked around every time the snow changes. It's smooth, predictable, and playful without feeling nervous. You can open it up when conditions allow, but it's also easy to pivot and maneuver when things get tight.
Weight is always part of the conversation with a touring ski, and Black Crows strikes a really nice balance here. It's light enough that long approaches aren't miserable, but they haven't stripped so much material out of the ski that downhill performance becomes an afterthought.
That makes the Camox Freebird an awesome candidate for a true 50/50 setup with a hybrid binding, but it's equally at home with a lightweight tech binding for bigger backcountry missions.
There are plenty of touring skis where the sales pitch basically boils down to, "Yeah, it doesn't ski that well, but look how light it is."
The Camox Freebird isn't one of them.
You might actually forget you're on a touring ski until it's time to put the skins back on.
