Cat's out of the bag.
The Volkl Secret 96 has been reconstructed for the 2025 season and is right back in the conversation for best all-mountain skis in the powerhouse 90-100mm category. The new version is still meant for a strong skier who knows how to drive their ski, it's just slightly less demanding than previous generations of the ski. This makes it more effortless off-trail and through technical descents, and ultimately, less one-dimensional. While the Secret has always been great on-trail when the snow is a little firmer, the new version will be just as much fun on those days when the woods are filling in or the backside bowls are skiing well. Beginner skiers might still find the new Secret to be too much work, but experienced intermediate to expert skiers won't have a problem steering it at lower speeds. The new construction makes the ski more accessible and we'd recommend it to a wider range of skier types and abilities than past Secret models, but the truth is, most skiers don't need a ski with this much power. This is for the ladies that can rip. Out of the skis in this category, the Secret remains number one in terms of stability and hard-snow performance. If you spend most of your time going fast and want something you can take to any part of the mountain, this might be your winner.
Who's this ski for? Hard-charging skiers who are looking for a versatile ski but mainly prioritize stability and hard snow performance
Who isn't this ski for? Beginner skiers and skiers who prefer their all-mountain ski to have a playful freeride feel.
An all-mountain ski that grips very well on firm snow and, thanks to new construction, is predictable enough to allow you to feel more in control of the skis and have a better time off-trail and through trickier terrain.
