The Lange XT3 Free 130 is one of the highest performing boots in the Alpine Touring category. Most AT boots have a slightly lower performance level, even in the top level flex, when compared to straight up downhill boots. The XT3 is a touring capable boot that skis like a true downhill boot. They flat out rip. Power transfer is immediate and the flex is responsive and progressive. The more you bend the boot the more power it sends to the skis. The trade off with a boot that skis this well is that it is going to weigh a little more than some other boots in the AT category, not a whole lot more, but it is on the heavier end of the spectrum. However, the performance and fit of this boot are unrivaled for a skier that is looking to absolutely get the most out of their skis from touring days to resort laps. This is a boot that can get you up hill with a smooth walk mode, but it's a beast on the descent.
How's the fit? The Lange XT3 130 feels slightly short, but not enough to warrant sizing up. Precise and snug in the heel with great foot retention throughout the entire foot. Width is average for MV fit while toe box is less roomy, precise but not uncomfortable. Instep is generous.
