The Step On version of one of the best boots. Need I say more?
The Step On version of the most well-rounded boot in Burton's collection. I might be stating the obvious here, but the Step On version of any Burton boot is no different from the regular version in terms of fit. In the case of the Photon specifically, that's awesome news, because this boot is GOAT'd (as the kids are saying).
From fit and feel to performance they check all the boxes and will get the job done for a wide range of riding styles. A narrow fit paired with a medium-stiff flex gives the boot a secure and responsive feel that's needed to maximize what you can achieve on the hill. The flex profile of the boot makes for efficient riding. It's not overly demanding for progressing riders and will provide enough stability and responsiveness for some more aggressive riding. For the more aggressive rider whose main priority is stiffness, the Burton Ion Step On Boot may be better suited for your needs. Still, for the majority of riders out there, the Photon Step On Boots paired with the Step On Bindings offer plenty of response and support when you want to lay a hard carve down, and enough mobility for the days when cruising groomers is the goal.
The Burton Photon Step On runs true to size with a narrow fit and a great ankle lock. For someone with a narrow foot and low instep, there should be no problem sliding into a Photon in your exact measurement and feeling that snug but comfortable fit. If that's you, you should have your sights set on the Photon or something else from Burton. If you have a wide foot or a big calf, the Photon's going to feel a bit snug even after breaking in, and unless you'd be fine with added pressure for increased heel hold, you're probably going to be happier in something wider like a K2 Maysis.
If you want a narrow-fitting boot that does it all without leaning too far in any direction you're going to be happy with the Photon. Responsive without being demanding, forgiving without lacking at higher speeds, and it's comfortable.
