It's usually pretty easy to tell where a board is most at home. That's not the case with the Hometown Hero.
The Hometown Hero is once again one of the top-tested boards among our testing team here at The Ski Monster. Year after year this is one of my favorite boards because it’s one of very few boards that has no problem handling anything I throw its way. It feels stable and confident at high speeds but still doesn’t lack maneuverability when I’m working my way through more technical stuff. It grips well in a carve, is energetic in and out of turns, and has a nimble and poppy feel in tight terrain. As someone who likes to do a little bit of everything on the mountain, this is a board I can fully trust to perform wherever I take it. The Hometown Hero’s flex profile is unique and what separates it from a lot of other boards in the category. The nose and tail are stiff and burly, that’s what generates that high-speed power, but torsionally between your feet, the flex is forgiving so it’s easy to manipulate the shape of your carve or change direction quickly in the trees.
It’s a balance of high performance and ease of use that is rare among boards. In most cases, it feels like you have to give up one for the other. So often high-performing boards feel too demanding at lower speeds while more entry-level boards feel like they lack confidence. Not the case with the Hometown Hero. A less experienced rider will find that it’s easy to balance on, doesn’t feel overbearing, and initiates a turn with ease. An expert rider will quickly find it’s got more than enough oomph to handle high speeds and gnarly terrain. There’s no explanation beyond Burton has found a formula that allows the Hometown Hero to be everything at once.
Who is this board for? Everyone. Alright maybe not everyone, but everyone who likes snowboarding.
Who isn't this board for? MAYBE a brand new rider but I could even argue against that. It’s a high-performance board but it’s plenty approachable for all skill levels.
We test products year round in order to curate the best gear for you.
A true daily driver. It can handle everything from rigid east coast conditions to blower out west. It never feels like it lacks at high speeds, and never feels too damp at lower speeds. Goldilocks zone.
