Line Skis isn't exactly the first brand that comes to mind when we think of the top all-mountain groomer-focused skis, but with this new Optic 88 they have earned a spot in the conversation. This ski provides a great balance of a stiff, damp feel underfoot and a lighter more forgiving feel in the shovels. That forgiving feel in the tips and tails make turn initiation effortless and doesn’t make the ski feel overwhelming to release from a carve. This makes it a great option for progressing skiers who like to go fast or want to improve their carving. At 88mm, the Optic isn’t afraid to dip off trail and has more than enough energy for some tree runs, but because of the damp feel toward the center of the ski, it’s still a bit more cumbersome in technical terrain than some other skis in this category. Skis with less or no metal underfoot like a Fischer Ranger 90 or Elan Ripstick 88 are going to take less work to pivot. The Blade Optic is going to feel more powerful than either of those options, and is easy enough to ski for a beginner to intermediate skiers. If you don’t really care about maneuverability and want to maximize confidence at higher speeds, the Optic is the choice for you.
