World Record: Skiing Switch at 80mph

Posted June 23, 2012 @ 2:08pm | by George Michaelsen

Skiing Switch, Backwards World Record Speed

Anders Backe of Norway set the Guinness World Record for skiing switch (backwards) on February 21st of 2012 at the Vikersund skiflying slope in Norway.  Anders hit 79.97mph skiing backwards.  To put this in perspective, professional/olympic downhill skiers can hit 100mph in a downhill event and are often in the 70 - 85 mph range.  The downhill skiers are also skiing forwards and using skis designed for speed, Anders did this on his park skis, a pair of Head Caddys.
