Lodging Review: The Cliff Lodge at Snowbird

Posted March 26, 2011 @ 11:33am | by Eric Gerrmann

Snowbird Resort in Utah attracts skiers and riders from all over the world to experience it's excellent terrain and champagne powder. For early morning face shots, take the Tram to Mineral Basin or hop on the magic carpet tunnel through the mountain.  After lunch, ski Red Lens Line to the Thunderbowl for fresh pow stashes. The endless trees, steeps and bottomless snow guarantee every shredder a fantastic experience.

The Cliff Lodge, Snowbird UtahThere are a few lodging options and I recommend The Cliff Lodge at Snowbird. It is the flagship hotel of the resort, and is located directly across from Snowbird Center. The Cliff Lodge is in the most central location for lift access and Après activities. The shuttle service to and from the Lodge is extremely convenient. It's only 29 miles (about 40 minutes) from Salt Lake City International Airport.  The Cliff Lodge is a self-sustaining hotel. It provides guests with shopping, a convenience store, rental/demo center, spa, restaurants, two outdoor heated pools, four hot tubs and ski-out/ski-in accessibility. Everything a ski-traveler would possibly need or want, can be found in The Cliff Lodge.

The standard rooms are very clean and offer picturesque views of the mountain. A mini refrigerator, flat screen TV and cable are all included in the price of the room. Upon arrival all guests are given a ski/snowboard locker, which are deceivingly big. Each locker can hold about four pairs of skis, and are equipped with automatic glove dryers. The locker area is also a comfortable place to put on your gear each morning.  Directly outside of the locker area is the Chickadee ski trail and Chickadee chair lift. The Chickadee run provides hotel guests a direct route to the Tram and Peruvian Express lift. At the end of the day the Chickadee chair gives skiers and riders a much need lift back to the hotel... so SICK!

Once you have received your full dose of Utah pow, kick off your boots, grab a few cocktails and hit one of the hot tubs. There are three hot tubs and a bar in the outside pool area. The outside area provides plenty of room for shredders to relax and enjoy Après food and drinks. Head up to the 10th floor for dinner, and indulge in some exceptional sushi at Aerie Restaurant. Sushi is served every night from 5:30 to 10:00 pm, and I highly recommend it.

If you like to ski hard, eat well and be less than 40 minutes away from an international airport, then Snowbird should be on your radar. Hit up The Cliff Lodge to book your stay... Tell them TheSkiMonster.com sent you!
