It was time, the RTM had their time and they were fine until they weren't.  Volkl's new Deacon 80 is a quieter ride while maintaining the energy and pop coming out of the turn you've learned to love in all the Volkl's that you have owned.  Without weighing in excessive amount to keep the skis stable, they Deacon 80 has a quick and nimble feel underfoot that makes popping in and out of the turns no problem.  Deacon 80 is for a skiers that want to crush groomers and have fun doing it.

FAQ

Is there a big difference between the RTM 80 and Deacon 80?

The Deacon 80 is a bit damper feeling, more predictable and a bit easier to initiate a turn at low speeds.

I’m going to own one pair of skis is the Deacon 80 a good choice?

If you’re spending the vast majority of your time on groomers and want a ski that wants to carve and be forgiving enough than yes.  Great on groomers and will get by in off trail situations, if it dumps a lot of snow you’ll probably feel under-gunned – you’ll need more waist width, rocker and potentially length.  This is for ripping groomers and skiing the occasional run off piste.

TLDR: A ski built for skiiing groomers and hardpack, that's quick edge to edge.
