The Volkl Blaze 106 skis are a welcoming sight to Volkl’s free ride ski offering. Over the past few years, Volkl had been missing something in their ski line-up. They seemed to lose sight of the wildly growing and expanding 50/50 skier market. Don’t get me wrong, they have been delivering the goods with their hard-charging Mantra M5 and newly re-designed Kendo… but with other ski companies emerging a head above them in the - “I want a ski that I can take touring, but still have fun skiing at the resort.” market - they were getting left in the dust. With the Volkl Blaze, then can turn the tide in their favor and get those 50/50 seeking skiers back on team Volkl. The Blaze 106 is an absolute sweet spot ski for skier’s looking for the perfect balance of on-trail/off-trail performance and versatility. This ski’s combination of playfulness, flotation and light-weight make it an ideal tool for both an AT setup or a lively resort-style ripper. The Blaze 106 performs really well through bumps, trees and softer snow conditions, while still maintaining enough torsional strength that you feel like you can push-it when you need to.
Volkl built this ski to compete directly with Nordica’s Enforcer 104, Elan’s Ripstick 106 and Blizzard’s Rustler 10s… and I believe that they succeeded in creating a product that the 50/50 skier market will absolutely love.
