Honestly, when it starts to get cold out on the mountain, having an effective mid-layer is going to keep you warmer than a heavier jacket. Synthetic insulation fibers keep you super warm, but because they’re so light and the membrane is so thin, you’re not going to feel bulky at all throwing it on underneath a shell.
