This year, Mammut upgraded their Stoney Jacket to feature a Gore-Tex membrane. How waterproof is Gore-Tex, you ask? On May 30, 2017 the New York Times Crossword contained a clue that read simply “waterproof fabric,” the answer was seven letters long. The correct answer of course: Gore-Tex. When it comes to staying dry in any conditions, there’s simply no better alternative than Gore-Tex. While lots of Gore-Tex jackets are true shells, the Stoney has enough synthetic insulation included to keep you warm, without sacrificing too much weight or packability. That means that you can stay warm and dry all the time without having to feel like you have to pick between the two. Combine that shell with a removable hood, plenty of pocket space, and a powder skirt attachment that can easily clip onto a pair of Mammut pants, and you’ve got a jacket that is worthy of a Sunday crossword.
