Kastle MX88 Skis 2016

THE ENEMY OF TIP-FLAP IS MY FRIEND

Test Locations: Stratton VT, Stowe VT

The Kastle MX88 cuts no corner in its pursuit of sheer excellence. The MX88’s Ash/Silver Fir Wood Core is deservingly protected from impacts by the highly durable ABS Sidewall Construction. This construction is fortified by a 45 degree Aluminum top-sheet bevel, which serves to deflect impact energy away from the ski. Hollowtech is tip-flap, or chatter reduction technology that you can only get from Kastle. By reducing the mass of the tip of the ski, the potential for chatter is greatly reduced. Chatter lifts the edge of the ski from the snow, and thereby reduces your control over your speed and direction. Hollowtech helps keep you in control of your skis. The MX88 is proof that not all wood cores are created equal. The combination of premium Ash and Silver Fir make the MX88 capable of edge-hold at super high speed, on world class front side pitches, without being crazy heavy. Despite the recent explosion of rocker technology within the ski market, Standard Camber remains the ideal ski profile for carving railroad tracks down monster frontside lines. A full sheet of rubber dampens the MX’s from tip to tail while two additional sheets sandwich each edge, killing vibration where it's most detrimental.

Construction

ABS Sidewall Construction - Abrasion and impact resistance are the defining characteristics of ABS Plastic. The MX88 ski is built with full length ABS sidewalls, for world class durability. This highly regarded, light weight material gives Kastle Skis edge grip where lesser boards fail to find a hold.

45 Degree Aluminum Top Sheet Bevel - The seam shared by a ski’s top sheet and sidewall is inherently vulnerable in instances of ski-to-ski impact. Kastle’s 45 degree aluminum bevel causes the force of impacts to be dispersed, and effectively minimizes wounds to the ski.

Hollowtech - The 2015 edition of Hollowtech is increased in size by 10%. This reduction of the tip of the ski’s material content further improves the MX88’s edge grip on rutted terrain by reducing tip-flap or chatter. In skis with traditional tip construction, tip-flap is perpetuated by inertia. Less mass means less inertia. Kastle’s Hollowtech is the enemy of tip-flap.

UHM Graphite Sintered Base - You think you know fast? This sintered base is built to accept and retain wax. Which lift are we meeting at?

Core

Full Wood Core - The complimentary relationship between ash, a super high density wood, and Silver Fir, an ultra-light wood, gives the MX88 the stability you need to get your charge on without being excessively heavy. The speed you roll em over at requires your game face… but you don’t ski every single day, and you’re not 18. Ash will let you drive your edge in on hard snow and ice. Silver Fir makes this possible after noon, and in degraded trail conditions.

Shape

Standard Camber - Looking to slash pow turns? You’ll have better luck elsewhere. If you’ve got a thing for controlled, high speed descents, then you came to the right place. Standard camber distributes your weight along the entire length of the edge, maximizing your grip in hazardous, hard snow conditions.

Additional Awesomeness

Rubber Dampening Sheet - A full sheet of rubber provides additional dampening throughout the ski. Keeping the vibration of the ski to a minimum is vital to a sure ride, and a high level of performance.

Rubber Dampening Edge Runner - These two-layer rubber runners surround the bottom layer of Titanal along the edges. These areas require the dampest performance, so Kastle gives them a little extra love.

Crikey!!! Looks like we’re sold out.
