A light and stretchy mid-layer is pretty much a necessity for serious skiers and this is seriously one of the best. I have a puffy mid-layer that's super warm but honestly on all but the coldest days I get way more use out of a thinner, lighter, and more breathable mid-layer like this one from Elevenate. Stretch fabrics make movement really easy, and between that and the slim fit it's easy to use this is a base layer underneath a shell and a puffy when its cold. Then ditch the puffy come springtime and the fleece lining will give you the slight warmth you'll need to use as a mid-layer on warmer days.
