Elan Ripstick 96 Black Edition Skis 2020

r: 18m @ 181 centimeters // weight: 1600 grams @ 181 centimeters // Rocker-Camber-Rocker

The Elan Ripsticks have been a favorite amongst our crew since we first got to ski the prototypes in the winter of 2015. Since then, the skis haven’t changed much but the Black Edition takes everything we like about the Ripsticks and steps them up. When you first take these things for a spin you’re initially shocked by how easy they are to get on edge and rip on really steep, technical terrain. Skis this light aren’t supposed to charge like these do; typically skis this grippy and stable on the frontside are heavy and a bit planky, usually feeling like you’re working to turn the ski. These honestly feel a little bit like they’re breaking the rules of ski construction - in a good way.

What’s the difference between the Ripstick 96 and the Ripstick Black Edition?

The amount of carbon in the ski. The O.G. ripsticks have two thin carbon tubes that run down the length of the ski, in the Black Edition you get those same two carbon tubes but also get a full layer of carbon on top of the core. Carbon makes a ski snappy and responsive without adding a ton of weight so the Ripsticks manage to grip really well on hardpack despite being really light. The Ripstick Black Edition skis are the same idea but are going to grip even more and feel even more powerful while keeping that super lightweight feel.

TLDR: A super responsive and lively feeling ski that’s actually fun to ski on day in and day out.
