When your touring career begins to reach higher mileage, you may want to consider a skin with mohair. The Black Diamond GlideLite Mohair Mix STS skins are the perfect balance between pure nylon and pure mohair construction. Nylon is known for its incredible grip ability and mohair for its efficient glide, weight, and ability to be neatly packed away. In this set, Black Diamond blends 65% mohair and 35% nylon to create the perfect intermediate to advanced skins. The STS means that these skins have both tip loops and tail clips. The tip loops are adjustable and since they screw into the skin they eliminate the need to fold your skins over an old style loop. This allows you to shave unnecessary weight and bulk. These skins need to be cut before use to expose your ski edges. Black Diamond includes a trim tool in the box along with a storage bag and some Cheat Sheet storage mesh. Cheat Sheets keep the skin glue from adhering to itself like an uncooperative piece of duct tape, this helps in extending the life of your skins.

When selecting the correct skin width, you want it make sure they are equal to or greater than the widest part of your ski. The widest part is usually in the tip and you can generally find this measurement printed in millimeters somewhere on the ski. If your skis are close to a particular size and you are worried about over buying, remember that you will be cutting off roughly 3mm on each side to expose your edges.

Any time you see a Black Diamond skin marked with the STS designation, this means that the skins come with both tip loops and tail straps. Both tip loops and tail straps are adjustable.

Tip Loops - Black Diamond tip loops are easily adjusted and super strong. The standard tip loops are adjustable from 80mm to 105mm.

Tail Straps - BD tail straps offer 10 cm of adjustability so you can easily switch them between different boards in your quiver. Black Diamond tail straps are riveted to the end of the skin and they have a reliable stretch that keeps skins in place.

Material

65% Mohair - Mohair is a naturally occurring fiber that has been a choice skin material for years. Mohair plush skin material is derived from the hair of the Angora Goat. Over the years mohair has been prized for its exceptional glide with less weight and more packability. These fibers contain a natural oil that resists water keeping your skins light all day. The fibers are naturally hollow keeping them light.

35% Nylon - Nylon is the choice of ski mountaineers that want the best grip in the business. Nylon is a bit heavier and less packable than its natural mohair counterpart, but it grips like no other.

Adhesive

Gold Label - Black Diamond’s proprietary Gold Label skin glue is the best in the business. It is formulated to stick for years and work in a wide range of temperatures. BD is so crazy about making sure that your skins are perfect, that they apply all Gold Label glue in house.
