DIRECTIONAL FLOATATION DEVICE.

The Backland FR 109 is a great powder ski for the skier that has been on traditional narrower waisted skis and is grabbing their first pair pow skis, maybe even has a bit of a racing background.  The skis engage in a turn similar to a carving ski when in deeper snow, it doesn’t feel sluggish.  The Backland FR 109 can also handle some serious speed if your sending it down an open bowl, tip chatter is minimal and the skis are reletively light.  If you bring one pair of skis with you to the resort and it’s a week long trip, you’re not going to be bummed if you don’t get much snow, the Backland FR 109 can grip a groomer pretty well all things considered.  It’s not going to rip like a Vantage but if it does dump or you find some fresh snow, the Backland FR 109 is a sweet ski.

Construction

HRZN Tech - The tip and tail of the ski is spooned, increasing surface area by 10% for better float and less chatter.  It also looks sick, if it looks sick it floats better, SCIENCE.

Carbon Backbone 2.0 – A narrow strip of carbon runs from tip to tail for increased stability and power. 

Core

Light Woodcore – Poplar, it’s light and lively.  

Shape

Powder Rocker - (25/65/10)  More rocker in the tip than tail with camber underfoot for a traditional directional feel.

Additional Awesomeness

Step down sidewall 2.0, enough grip, with minimal weight added.  

Binding

The Atomic Backland FR 109 does not come with a binding. We recommend you use a binding that will accommodate your skiing needs (backcountry, touring, freeride etc.).
