Never Summer Cobra 2012-2013 Review

Posted March 27, 2012 @ 10:24am | by Beau Schwab

Never Summer Cobra SnowboardThere is no question that Never Summer Industries is making some of the best snowboards in the world and has been for some time now. Built at the base of the Colorado Rockies in Denver, Never Summer has the ultimate testing grounds to dial in their world-class products.

Never Summer has a set focus on building some of the strongest, longest lasting snowboards on the market. Advertising and other promotional tools are at a minimum; they let the boards do all the talking. This allows more time for Never Summer to search out the best materials available and put their efforts into divine craftsmanship.

For the 2012-2013 season Never Summer has birthed an all new new beast, the Never Summer Cobra Snowboard. Largely inspired by the Proto CT, the Cobra features many similarities in build but has been designed with more of an all mountain free ride feel versus the Proto CT, which is designed with slightly more park focus in mind.

The Cobra is designed with a blunted tip and tail in an effort to cut down on the boards swing weight. The big design change is the extended nose and short “spade tail”. The extended nose cuts through soft snow and the spade tail helps to enhance float. Along with this offset design the stance is set back slightly, giving the board a directional ride.

The Cobra also features NS’s Bi-Directional Rocker Camber Profile. The board is rockered between the bindings in the middle and cambered near the tip and tail. Associated with Rocker & Camber Technology is Vario Power Grip Sidecut. Due to the camber profile of the board (cambered at the tip and tail) there is premium stability, edge hold and power to be found when entering and exiting turns and increased ollie power. This design has proven to rise above other rocker designs, which rode great in soft snow and powder but fell short on hard pack and at speed.

The Cobra is part of Never Summer’s Carbonium Series. This means the board is designed with NS’s Carbonuim Laminate Technology (CLT) which means there are two layers of carbon built into the board, one on the base and one on the top. This helps to increase overall power and tortional rigidity in the board. Carbon is a very strong and lightweight material, which ensures theses boards are built to last. The Cobra is also designed with a Carbonium Topsheet. The top sheet is simply made of a stronger, more resistant material, helping to cut downs on chips, dings, nicks and scrapes, keeping your board looking better, longer.

Never Summer Cobra 2012/2013 Snowboard Review aka Bottom Line: This is a brand new design and Never Summer didn't cut any corners. It's technology and shape make it an awesome free ride deck that excels in deep snow and wide open terrain. Powerful, lightweight and durable, this new snowboard is the real deal.
