Brand: Volkl

Test Locations: Big Sky MT, Cannon NH, Stratton VT, Sugarbush VT

This is the first time the Volkl Kendo has really changed structurally since it's inception in 2011. The addition of tip rocker in 2013 was barely noticeable -- more of a marketing ploy -- but the addition of tail rocker for 2016 is definitely noticable and not just hype.  Unlike the Mantra that is fully rockered the Kendo has some camber underneath the foot so it can still bite into the East Coast hardpack on top of Sugarloaf in Maine and have some good rebound.

The Kendo has been noted numerous times by reviewers as an awesome East Coast ski -- rightfully so.  The 2016 Kendo with the addition of tail rocker is much-much better in bumps, trees and powder -- the East Coast is more than just groomers (2014-2015 season is a prime example).  Volkl accomplished this added level of off-trail performance without throwing the frontside performance away.

Will the 2016 Kendo grip as well as the 2015 model? No, but it's really only noticable if you are doing quick turns on bullet-proof ice or if the snow is variable at high speeds.

There is always a trade off when you make a ski perform better off trail or in softer snow but the trade off is minimal for the gains that you get.  If currently have a Kendo or have demo'd one and you just wish it skied better in soft snow.... 2016 is your year to pull the trigger.

Power Construction - Sidewall runs the length of the ski for maximum edge hold and stability.

Powered by Titanium - Incredible energy and snap. Titanium gives the Volkl Kendo unrivaled power and stability.

Sensorwood - A combination of vertically laminated poplar and beech woods. This core is extremely durable and helps to provide the skis with a consistent flex.

Freeski Tip & Tail Rocker -  Rocker in the tip and tail with camber underfoot. Effortless turn initiation, increased floatation and stability where you need it most.

The Volkl Kendo does not come with a binding. We recommend you use a binding that will accommodate your skiing needs (backcountry, touring, all-mountain, freestyle etc.). Be sure the brake width and release settings will work for your particular activity. Questions about what's best for you, contact an expert at TheSkiMonster.com.
