DPS Wailer 106 Alchemist Skis 2018

DPS Wailer 106 Alchemist Skis 2018

SENDING IS A HABIT.

Test Locations: Big Sky MT

Last year at Big Sky I spent a morning skiing the tram with Stephan Drake, the founder of DPS and one of the DPS athletes Drew Petersen on the new Wailer 106.  If you've skied at Big Sky you know how rocky and technical it can get, it's also steep which adds to the excitement.  Skiing Big Sky's chutes on a new pair of skis when you've spent most of your season skiing New England Groomers is a little freaky, but man the Wailer 106 does what you tell it to do.  Unlike the Wailer 112 or 99 the 106 is shaped more like a traditional ski and runs more true to size, the mounting point also isn't as far back.

What's awesome about the ski is on groomers it feels solid like the Blizzard Cochise arguably the most solid feeling ski under foot north of 100 mm.  But the Cochise is heavy feeling and not that nimble, this is where the Wailer 106 shines.  This is our favorite ski from DPS and one of our favorite skis for the upcoming season.

FAQ:

How does the Pure3 construction and Alchemist construction differ?

Basically the new construction is way more durable.  The Pure3 construction was just sidewall, the Alchemist construction has a mini-cap – this was done for durability purposes, less chipping on the top sheet.  The tail of the skis also has a tail bar to keep delaming from happening.

Perfromance wise the Alchemist construction is going to be less nervous feeling on harder snow and at speed, this will be more noticable on super hard snow like the stuff we have here in the North East.  Otherwise still the same great ski, no con’s to the construction at all.

Construction

DPS Alchemist Construction

Alchemist Pure Carbon

Ultra High Molecular Weight Sidewall - Sidewall construction extends the useful life of your ski, and increases edge grip throughout that time. UHMW Sidewalls create a grippy, damp, and durable feel, allowing you to let em rip with confidence.

Austrian World Cup Race Bases - Hard and Fast. These race bases will leave you with time to kill at the base area, while you wait for your riding buddies to catch up. If they aren't down by the time you hit up the lift-side waffle shack... Leave em in the dust. Remember - No friends on a groomer day.

Rockwell 48 Edges - DPS employs hardened steel to provide the edge grip required to go where others can't to get the goods.

Core

Aspen Wood Core - Aspen is a high density hardwood, renowned for its exceptional toughness, durability and stiffness.

Shape

Rocker | Camber | Rocker - Low profile rocker in the tip and tail allows the Wailer 106 to slice through snow like Japanese cutlery. Camber distributes your weight along the effective edge, for powerful turning capability on hard pack.
