For as long as I can remember Volkl has been building some of the industry's best all-mountain skis. Volkl has always designed and built their product with the latest technology the ski industry has to offer. When the Rocker Revolution spilled over from the "Free Ride" category to pretty much everything, I thought... "How is Volkl going to integrate Rocker into the AC line-up". Then in a dramatic turn of events Volkl decided to dissolve their number one selling line of skis and create the All-New RTM series.
When I say dramatic, I mean that I was initially confused by the notion of scrapping your staple line and developing something competely new. How could Volkl do this? The AC30 and AC50 are outstanding skis still in high demand. I'm sure Volkl could hear the industry chatter about the senseless decision of throwing the AC models out the window. Old men skiers everywhere were predicting the collapse of the great German ski manufactuer. Well the Germans knew something that we didn't... The RTM series skis were the real deal!
The Volkl RTM 84 is designed to be an all-mountain machine. Volkl gave the RTM 84 a brand new shape, base profile and construction. Its predecessor the AC50... doesn't stand a chance.
The Volkl RTM 84 is constructed with Dual XTD Sidewall, which is a combination of technologies. Volkl kept its Double Edge Grip construction intact and added a full vertical sidewall. The sidewall runs the length of the ski with the Double Edge Grip and titanium placed directly on top. This gives the ski increased torsional stability and exceptional edge hold on hard pack snow. Volkl also gave the ski come style points by coloring the sidewall neon green, and once you put it on snow it really POPS. Dual XTD Sidewall is a completely new construction for Volkl and they absolutely nailed it!
The biggest change from the Volkl AC50 to the RTM 84 is the addition of rocker. The RTM 84 has Volkl's On-Piste Full Rocker which makes the ski more versatile than the AC50 ever was. The Full Rocker gives the RTM 84 more float in softer snow and better crud busting ability when the condition are not ideal. Combining the Full Rocker profile with a 84 mm waist gives the RTM 84 exceptional performance off-trail. The Full Rocker allows the ski to feel nimble in tight situations, and the 84 waist gives you plenty of float in fresh snow.
Groomers, trees, steeps... Fresh snow, corduroy, hardpack... This ski will shred anything. One run on the RTM's and you will forget the AC line ever existed. Volkl's new RTM series out shines the AC in every aspect. From construction to performance to cosmetics, the RTM series skis are the industry's new standard for all-mountain excellence.
